SAINT SEBASTIAN SCHOOL (EPISODE -03) !!!

Mrs.Gonzalves:- Your son Dolui is a very inattentive boy. During class hours, he keeps on looking outside the window and keeps on thinking about something. If he starts paying more attention to the class, then I am sure that he will do better results in future.

Dibakar:- Yes, madam, I will surely look after that. Actually, madam, my son is somewhat very shy and of introvert type. He loves to think more.

Basundhara:- Accha, madam, what is the feedback about my daughter, Bidisha? Why don’t you cane her every day? She doesn’t even study for 1 hour in a day.

Mrs. Gonzalves:- No, no, don’t pressurize your child at this young age. Let them study whenever they feel like studying. Just motivate them to study about some new things by increasing the curiosity level in their minds.

Nagenchand:- What is your feedback about my son, madam?

Mrs. Gonzalves:- Oh! Nonigopal is a very nice boy. Actually, he is a very obedient boy. He doesn’t misbehave with anyone. He is a very good boy.

Avinash:- Madam, you are not taking special care of my child. He has come last in the class. I also don’t know how to control my son.

Mrs. Gonzales:- Oh! Your son! Uff…I have hardly seen such a naughty in my 22 years of teaching profession. He always sits at the last bench corner and keeps on disturbing others. He is too talkative. Many a times during tiffin breaks, I have seen him dancing and singing while standing on the bench. Uff….what a naughty boy! I have caned him for so many times, but till date, all has gone in vain.

Arindam:- Madam, if you are not getting any improvement in me, then why do you cane me every day?

Mrs.Gonzales:- Shoo! Shoo! You should not argue with your class teacher. Try to become a good boy like Nonigopal or Satya.

Arindam:- Oh! Again, Madam will give a long lecture for 15 minutes. Dad, you have taken the report card, naah…come on, let’s go back home now.

*********************************

Benudhar:- Arrey, excuse me! If I am not wrong; were you not present in the Bankers’ Association Meeting at Mahajati Sadan last week.

Avinash:- Yeah, I have also seen you. So, you are also in a PSU Bank.

Benudhar:- Yeah, the father of Nonigopal and I are in the same branch only. This is my wife Basundhara.

Nagenchand:- Baah…besh bhaloi holo…at least in this parent-teacher meeting, we get to know each other.

Avinash:- Accha, in this winter vacation, are you people not planning to go for a tour. After all, Bank is providing us the LFCs.

Benudhar:- Yeah, we were also thinking about going somewhere. This time RBI has sanctioned that Bank employees can claim up to 1500 bucks for their dependents if they travel by air.

Avinash:- Exactly! That’s why; I am planning to go to Agartala by Indian Airlines. None of my family members have boarded an aeroplane.

Nagenchand:- Arrey, we also fall in the same category. So, we can plan out and go together to Agartala. Actually, boarding on the aeroplane is our main motive…he he he…

Benudhar:- Ok, done, three families will go for the tour. But, when have you planned to go.

Avinash:- We will book the tickets of 24th December and will come back on 27th December. Hardly it is around 2 hours journey from Kolkata to Agartala by flight. Don’t worry; I will book all the tickets. Two of my friends are having their own travel agencies.

*********************************

Nonigopal:- Dad, I am feeling bored here. We will have the winter vacation for 1 month. What to do?

Nagenchand:- Arrey, we will go to Agartala on 24th December.

Nonigopal:- Oh! 24th December will come two weeks later. No, no, I need to go somewhere in this week.

Nayantara:- Ok, we can go to our village. After coming to this city, we have not gone there for 1 year.

Nagenchand:- Hmm…ok, you and Nonigopal can stay in the village for 2 weeks.

*********************************

Niharika:- Do you know her?

Nonigopal:- I am seeing her for the first time. Who is she?

Niharika:- She is your Chandrani didi. Actually, she is the daughter of your grandfather’s aunty’s daughter. Her father is a station master. He has now got transferred from Hiburganj station to Mahendranagar station. Mahendranagar village is just adjacent to this village. Her father is staying with her family at that village only. Just go and play with her.

Chandrani:- Come on, Noni. I will take you to our village.

Nonigopal:- Uuh! I have more friends than you in your own village itself. You don’t have to give me details about Mahendranagar village. Accha, Chandrani didi, do you know how to play marbles?

Chandrani:- Don’t call me didi. I am hardly two years elder than you. Yeah, I know that game a little bit.

Nonigopal:- You are in which class?

Chandrani:- I am in class IV. Actually, I was in class III in Hiburganj Primary School, but, here the teachers of Mahendranagar Primary School found me too intelligent to get me admitted in class IV. So, without even sitting for the half-yearly exam in class III, I am now preparing for the half-yearly exam of class IV…he he he…You are in which school?

Nonigopal:- Oh! Please, chandrani, I am on a vacation now. Don’t ask me about my school now.

*********************************

Bidisha:- I am missing school now. Already, one week of this vacation has gone. I am feeling bored now.

Basundhara:- Why don’t you ring up your school friends and keep on gossiping?

Bidisha:- I have the landline numbers of Nonigopal, Arindam and Dolui. Srabanti and Meenakshi don’t even have BSNL landline connections. Nonigopal’s landline number is not responding. Dolui’s landline number is dead. I don’t know why!

Basundhara:- Then ring up that naughty fellow, Arindam, naah…

Bidisha:- Yes, I will ring him up now.

******************************

Bidisha:- Hello! Is Arindam there?

Arundhati:- Who are you?

Bidisha:- Aunty, I am Bidisha. I am Arindam’s classmate.

Arundhati:- Oh! Accha, accha…kintu o toh ekhon barite nei…He has gone to play cricket on the street with those plastic balls. Accha, just hang on. Let me call him. Aiyee….khokha, Arindam ke dekey deh toh…or phone esechey…

Khokha:- Yes, aunty. Just a minute. Aiyee…Arindam, tor phone eseche….your mom is calling you.

Arindam:- Dhaath…after a long time, I have got the chance to bat. Ei Nelo, firey esey kintu ami batting karbo boley dilum…otherwise I will break your MRF bat.

Bidisha:- Guess! Whom are you speaking to?

Arindam:- Oh! You are Bidisha. No one in our class have such a unique voice like you. So, why have you called me up? I was just preparing to bat.

Bidisha:- Are you not feeling bored in this vacation? The duration of the vacation should be reduced to 15 days only.

Arindam:- What! Vacations should be increased by another 15 days. You are feeling bored, what can I do in that case. Go and play cricket on the streets like me.

Bidisha:- I am not a boy. I am a girl. You are an idiot. There is no point in talking with you. Go and play cricket on the streets. Bye.

Arindam:- Oho! Thank you, Bidisha. Bye bye.

**************************************

Nonigopal:- No, no, no…I will not eat this bread and sweets. I want two omelets in breakfast, otherwise I will not eat.

Nayantara:- I will give you one tight slap now. Why are you kicking those dishes? Get lost! You don’t have to eat anything in breakfast.

Nonigopal:- Ok, fine! I am going.

Niharika:- Aah…bouma...your son has got all the traits of his father only. Nagenchand was also like him in his childhood. Dadu bhai…just sit down…I will make omelets for you.

**********************************

Nonigopal:- Hey Chandrani, look what I am wearing today. It is a hat which has been made by using the trees of Tal trees (Talpataar Tupi). And look at this stick. It is known as Beter lathi. My grandfather bought it for me in the recent Gangasagar Mela at Sagar Dweep. How am I looking with this hat and stick?

Chandrani:- Ha ha ha…oho! You are looking like a British General, dear. You are looking great! Now, you should start patrolling the village.

Nonigopal:- Yeah, I will surely do that, but what the hell are you doing in that khejur tree. Why have you climbed up on that tree? Why the upper portion of all the khejur trees is well-shaven? I can also see those little pots hanging on every khejur tree!

Chandrani:- During the nights and in early morning hours of winter season, all the khejur trees start secreting juices. Sailen dadu of our village have given me the charge to gather all the juices of khejur trees of his garden.

Nonigopal:- What for? What will Sailen dadu do with these juices of khejur trees?

Chandrani:- These juices will be poured in a big tray. After that the juices will be heated up for around 10 to 15 hours continuously. The more it gets heated, the juice will turn thicker and the color will turn red. The juice will get transformed into a sweet mixture which is known as Gur, in Bengal.

Nonigopal:- Oh! This is how gur is prepared. I love to eat Rotis with Gur, but I was not aware that the Gur is prepared from these khejur juices.

Narayan Babu:- Noni, aiyee Noni…why have you beaten Bhola with that stick? He is crying now.

Nonigopal:- He is a very disturbing animal. Wherever I was going, he was following me.

Narayan Babu:- He loves you, that’s why, he was going with you to protect you from any danger. Bhola is the best dog of this village. Every other dog respects and obeys him and you are beating him like that. Bhola is a part of our family. Can’t you see tears in his eyes? I am warning you, Noni. In future, never beat Bhola with that stick; otherwise, I will beat you with that stick. Bhola ke ador korey deh…

Bhola:- Ghoo….ghoo….ooo….ghew…

Chandrani:- He is such a sweet dog and you are beating him….chee…chee…Come on Bhola…I will give you some nice biscuits.

Narayan Babu:- Noni, from now on, wherever you will go, Bhola will go with you as your bodyguard. Don’t ever tease him.

Nonigopal:- Ok, as you wish.

**************************************

Nonigopal:- Dumdum Airport is a very nice place. I like it. I am feeling very tensed.  We will fly in the sky.

Arindam:- He he he…we will fly like a bird…oho! See there…Bidisha is coming with her parents.

Bidisha:- Hee…hee…hee…after such a long time, I am meeting with you, Noni…How was your time in the village?

Nonigopal:- Oh! It was good.

Arindam:- Actually, Bidisha was feeling bored in this vacation, he he he…

Bidisha:- Have I told you to open your mouth? Idiot! Go and play cricket in that runway also.

Arindam:- Oh! It’s better not to talk with you.

Avinash:- Hey all of you, come, come…We have to go inside for the checking and then we will board the plane.

************************************

Nonigopal:- Naresh uncle, all the ladies with blue colored sarees inside this Indian Airlines aeroplane are so beautiful! Most of them are of your age only. Select one of them as my Kakima (Uncle’s wife).

Nareshchand:- You will get a beating from me now. Just sit quietly.

Nonigopal:- Husssh….one lady is coming towards us.

Nareshchand:- Don’t call them as ladies. They are called air-hostess.

Air-hostess:- Excuse me, Sir! Do you like to have some toffees?

Nareshchand:- Yeah, only two.

Nonigopal:- Aunty, can I take 10 toffees…if you don’t mind…

Air-hostess:- Yeah, sure, why not…take as much toffees you can, but please don’t call me aunty. Call me madam, instead.

*********************************************

Arindam:- Ha ha ha…Bidisha…I have got the window side.

Bidisha:- Idiot! When the aeroplane will fly in the air, you can see clouds and clouds only…I have got the window side…how funny! Uuh…

Arindam:- Oho! Unfortunately, my seat number is C22 and yours is C21. I have to hear your lectures for 2 hours.

Bidisha:- Hee hee hee…ok, ok, I will give long lectures to you…at least, I will not feel bored…hee hee hee…

Students of Class II:- Good morning, Sir!

Dr.Bradman:- Morning, morning! Please sit down. Actually, I am visiting each and every class to make an important announcement. As per the guidelines of our Education ministry, from now on, every year, our new classes will start from April and end at March of next year. Earlier it was from January to December. That means; this year you people will appear for Half-Yearly Exams in August-September instead of May-June. There is another announcement. From this year, our school authority has decided to change the color of our school uniform. From now on, you people will wear cream colored shirts and brown colored pants. The uniform of sky blue shirt and navy blue pant will be discarded. Mrs. Mary is the class teacher of class II. Accha, Mrs. Mary, have you told them about the piano classes?

Mrs. Mary:- Oh! I forgot to tell them!

Mr. Bradman:- Listen everybody! This year, we have recruited a piano teacher in our school. His name is Dick. Those who all are interested in learning piano can give their names to Mrs. Mary within this week. Is anyone having any doubts regarding my announcements?

Prakash:-Sir, do we need to pay extra for learning piano?

Mr. Bradman:- No, you don’t have to. Just learn piano and be a musician. I will feel proud if you can become a talented musician. Any further questions! Ok, thank you! Just enjoy your classes.

Students of Class II:- Thank you, Sir!

**************************************

Nagenchand:- Oho! Again we will have to buy new uniforms and that too from Bangla Bastralaya only as the school has tie-ups with them. Only that shop has the readymade uniforms of this school. It is pure business and nothing else. They have also hiked the school fees by 50 bucks per month and school bus fare by 25 bucks per month.

Benudhar:- Kuch paaney ke liye kuch kharcha bhi karna parta hain…That’s the basic mantra of India. So, don’t worry too much about all these things.
*************************************
Bidisha:- My dad has bought a new TV set. Actually, the 1987 world cup will start from the forthcoming week. India will play as a defending champion.

Arindam:- Oho! We don’t have a TV set in our house.

Bidisha:- No problem! You can come in our house and watch the matches.

Arindam: - At your house! Tauba! Tauba! It’s better not to watch the world cup matches. I will tell my dad to buy a TV set.

***************************************

Avinash:- Hey, look, what I have bought. It’s a TV of (ET&T) TELEGOLD Company.

Arindam:- Hurrah! Wait; let me call my neighboring friends. Ei…Khokha, Nelo, Pocha…jaldi aaye…amader baaritey natun TV esechey re…

Nelo:- Ei…sataa….black & white TV…Avinash uncle, what is the cost of this TV?

Avinash:- Oh! It is very costly. Shop owner was demanding 1600 bucks, but I bargained and bought it on 1400 bucks only. From now on, all of you can enjoy world cup matches here.
